Blurb- Book 2 of All for the Game; The Raven King follows The Foxhole Court

The Foxes are a fractured mess, but their latest disaster might be the miracle they’ve always needed to come together as a team. The one person standing in their way is Andrew, and the only one who can break through his personal barriers is Neil.

Except Andrew doesn’t give up anything for free and Neil is terrible at trusting anyone but himself. The two don’t have much time to come to terms with their situation before outside forces start tearing them apart. Riko is intent on destroying Neil’s fragile new life, and the Foxes have just become collateral damage.

Neil’s days are numbered, but he’s learning the hard way to go down fighting for what he believes in, and Neil believes in Andrew even if Andrew won’t believe in himself.

Review- Yep. I loved this. Same great writing, same riveting plot, same fascinating characters. The Raven King unravels things a little further, and you get to see: more about the Foxes, more about the Ravens, and quite a little more about “Neil.” You get to find more about every Fox’s back story this time (except Allison, I think), which I really enjoyed. In particular, I loved the development of Neil’s relationship with Wymack, Renee, Betsy, and, of course, of course: Andrew. This book has some very exciting moments in terms of plot, in which we really get to see Neil start to live life fully and unabashedly unafraid, but also happy. He starts to love again. It’s bittersweet, considering his bleak future. His love story is so subtle, but so real, so, in it’s own way, “sweet.”

Anyway, a great read, just like the first book. I highly recommend checking it out. Love it.

Profile of the Disappearance of Madeleine McCann By Pat Brown

Genre- Nonfiction, True Crime, Mystery

Blurb- What really happened to Madeleine Beth McCann in Praia da Luz, Portugal in 2007? Was she abducted as the Gerry and Kate have claimed or did something happen to Madeleine on May 3 in the vacation apartment and the incident covered up? Criminal Profiler Pat Brown analyzes the evidence and takes the readers through the steps of profiling, developing a theory that is intriguing and controversial.

Review- This book is quite short, more like an essay in some ways, but it manages to bring together, in an easily digestible form, much of the available evidence concerning the McCann case, which remains unsolved and deeply troubling even after 7 years.

Pat Brown’s analysis of the case yields several important insights, and in general her approach is more objective than that of Goncalo Amaral in his book “The Truth of the Lie”, which has yet to be published in English. Amaral has a hypothesis, and could be right, but he also has a reputation to defend and the Portuguese investigation team made serious mistakes. So he could be biased.

The first half of this essay is more impressive than the second, where I felt that the author was too quick to reject the abduction theory, with the clear implication that there was parental involvement. Brown points out, correctly, that the parents are implicated in about 85% of missing children cases. However, in almost every other case I have read about, one or both parents were involved. Here, we are asked to belive that a larger group of 7 other adults were also somehow involved in an after-the-event cover-up. This I find this very difficult to accept for a number of reasons.

The possibility that the sniffer dogs were wrong can, I think, be safely discounted. The statistical probability of both (British) dogs mistakenly alerting to the presence of a violent crime scene inside apartment 5A is miniscule (though not absolutely impossible). In any case, a separate group of (Portuguese) sniffer dogs, trained to detect the scent of living persons, had already failed to find any forensic evidence of Madeleine being abducted alive in any direction away from the apartment. From this, it can be safely concluded that death must have occurred in the apartment. This should be the starting point for any fresh investigation.

However, like Amaral, Pat Brown seems to assume that the forensic evidence discovered by the dogs fatally undermines the abduction theory. We should ask if this is really the case. Perhaps there was a bungled robbery, or a failed abduction attempt, which led to violence in the apartment. In which case, it would have been a stranger who removed the body from the apartment. Brown expresses puzzlement over Gerry McCann’s repeated use of the word “taken” to describe Madeleine’s removal from the apartment. But perhaps he was simply acknowledging the possibility that Madeleine was not taken alive (as you wouldn’t normally use the term ‘kidnapping’ or abduction’ in these circumstances). However, if there was evidence of the apartment being cleaned up afterwards to remove forensic traces, this would tend to argue against the involvement of would-be abductors, as they simply wouldn’t have had the time to do it.

The possibility that Madeleine may have been removed in order to conceal evidence because a crime (burglary, abduction) had gone wrong needs to be more fully investigated, because in some ways it is the simplest explanation consistent with the facts.

Why do I say this? Well, first of all there are serious problems with the hypothesis of parental involvement. To discover that a tragic accident had taken place, and then arrange for the removal and hiding of the body in an unfamiliar location, would have required tremendous composure and presence of mind, totally at odds with the behaviours observed on the night. The window of opportunity would also have been extremely tight – possibly half an hour or even less, depending on what you believe about witness testimony concerning the father’s whereabouts.

But there is an even more serious problem. Those who reject the abduction theory in effect allege a conspiracy involving nine adults. Some of these people were admittedly close friends, but this was not true of everyone in the group. Persuading everyone to tell the same (false) story about what happened would have presented a formidable challenge, and all of this was supposed to be happening at a time when there was a body to dispose of in a strange environment! Pat Brown seems to have no difficulty accepting this hypothesis, but I find it very implausible unless the Tapas 9 all had something to hide e.g. the methods they used to get their children off to sleep in the evening. In this case, no conspiracy would have been required, as there would have been a very strong shared interest in promoting the abduction theory.

For all these reasons, I find the arguments more finely balanced than this book suggests. On the one hand, it is hard to see why the McCanns would be so dismissive of the sniffer dogs’ evidence, if they genuinely wanted to find their daughter. Surely they would take an intense interest in the findings and want the police to leave no stone unturned to find out what the evidence signified? On the other hand, the timelines and the degree of planning required for a cover-up to work lend strong prima facie support for the abduction theory. Cover-ups also tend to break down over time, as distance from the event increases and conscience starts to bite. This has not happened (yet).

Eventually the truth will come out about what happened in this tragic and mysterious case, and it is in the public interest for all the possibilities to be investigated and debated. It is not helpful in this respect that books like this, and the one by Amaral, are effectively banned in the UK.

Blurb- A depressed mermaid with daddy issues is hot for a black-clad mercenary bear who makes her forget her troubles and want to be with him – only him – for the rest of their lives. But her shark of a stepfather wants her under his thumb and he’ll do anything to get her back. Bounty hunters lay siege to the town and it’s all-out war. Will they prevail? Or will they be torn apart forever?

Review- I love Bianca D’Arcs’ work! This is another prime example of her taking her characters through a difficult situation to resolving it in a way that both are stronger for the problems they faced together.

Beth is a mer who lived life with evil before escaping to her new life within a new pod. She became upset about going to live back close to the shore because of the evil that stalks her. In learning how to defend herself and the pod she starts to have self-confidence and begins to feel self-worth.

Trevor is a bear with a mission to fight evil wherever he and his brothers in arms run into it. He came to recon and strategize with the bears of Grizzly Cove about the threats they face against their community. He’s also there as a liaison for Jesse Moore about the “private zoo” that Seamus (the Koala of The Luck of the Shifters) was held captive.

The sparks fly but the fear Beth holds within makes her run for a while. Grace (a mer friend of Beth’s) and Grace’s mate Jack, help ease the fear a little by inviting Beth and Trev to have a meal at her place. Observing and talking to Moira (Seamus’ selkie mate) helps to calm Beth’s fear. Though only spending time with Trevor can show Beth that not all men are mostly ego and little care of their chosen mates.

This was an absolutely fabulous story! I can’t wait for the next book in the series

Blurb- Get Up. Get Better. Get a Better Man.

A love story about pain, betrayal, getting better, getting even and falling in love all over again.

Chasing “ever after” is a rollercoaster ride. But every tear, every pain and every laughter is worth believing that fairy tales still happen in real life.

Review-This book is one of my all time favorite. I first found it in wattpad and I fell in love instantly, its a beautiful story it has the perfect balance that keeps you coming to more. I had to buy to keep it with me always, my library wasn’t complete without this one. And I’m planning on buying the paperback copy. That’s how much I loved this book. I can’t wait to get my hands on the spin off Taming A Princess.

Review- frankly speaking i was not into Reading, more into movie type of person. but KISS changed me completely. Haha. It was recommended by my best friend back in 2013, n i have been in love with KISS ever since. I cant stop reading it so finally i decided to buy the ebook and keep this fairytale with me while im in the search of my own Ryder.
Love you Ryder!
And for you Jerilee, thanks for this amazing Story that makes me believe in Ever After and give me Hope.

Review- I love this book! Absolutely a joy to read!

It took me on a rollercoaster ride of emotions! One minute I was mad at the fiancé, then I was laughing, and then I was crying, and then I was falling in love, and then I was crying again and then I was laughing again!

No other book has done this to me! The emotions I felt were real. The female character whined so much at first, but that was VERY BELIEVABLE! I would whine and cry too and be buried in a pitiful pit if that happened to me! Heck, my girlfriends were more pathetic than Ash when they got dumped by the loves of their lives. The fact that she was on a low-time low made me feel for her more and made me cheer for her when she was pulling off her revenge charade.

Ryder Van Woodsen is an absolute prince charming! Any girl who wants to fall in love has to read this book and meet Ryder Van Woodsen!

This romance is highly recommended for anybody looking to fall in love and be taken into an emotional rollercoaster ride.

I have read Jerilee Kaye’s Intertwined on Wattpad too and it was so intense and deep. Totally different and yet totally lovable! Her books are worth the sleepless nights!

I did not see grammatical errors on this book at all, contrary to what the other reviewer mentioned. I must have the latest edition.

This book contained the first chapter of Taming a Princess, which is the spin-off of the book. Sounds really promising!

Blurb- Scrum, as new way of product development, delivers high value. Authentic knowledge body of Scrum is Scrum Guide. It is too dense to absorb without context and correlations. This book reveals Scrum with context and correlations using Active Learning technique. It is all-in-one guide for Professional Scrum Master (PSM 1) aspirants, with comprehensive Scrum material, tips, and 250+ practice questions

Review- I have purchased this book like 3 days ago, Read it after already ready scrum guide 2-3 times (which i will recommend). This is a very good book that clears up a lot of things from scrum guide. I think if I would have read this book before scrum guide, i would have more difficulty, since like others have said, the contents are scattered. However first reading scrum guide couple of times and then reading this book acts as a building block. This will clear up a lot of things that you have read in scrum guide and which apparently you though you got it after reading scrum guide. The scrum guide is high level understanding and this book explains in details, that will help you clear the assessment. Also try the quiz without cheating and the 80 questions assessment in time box. If you clear these quiz and assessment (without cheating), you will make it (in addition to scrum open assessments). And BTW, yesterday I passed the PSM with 98%.

Review- I bought this book after reading recommendations on various scrum forums. Indeed this is an excellent and to the point book. The book is intended to enhance and make the focus on scrum concepts much clear and deeper. The content is precise yet covers all the significant areas of PSM1.
The mock test actually covers a wide range of questions and gives a good practice for the real test.
I read Scrum guide and took few mock tests. Later I bought this book and it has helped me sharpen the scrums skills. I have cleared PSM1 with 94%.
I would give this book 9 on 10. Must buy. Thumbs Up

Blurb- Our Universal Journey is a unique book of Self-Empowerment on a Universal scale and beyond exposing the Planetary matrix and even the Cosmic matrix. A unique perspective surpassing the paradigms of science, religion, the occults and new age. The level of knowledge and wisdom shared is the foundation for awakening into an aware and conscious Being, and consequently Freedom and Sovereignty of Spirit

Review- Wow! This one truly well explained and non-fluff writing from George is such an amazing book! To me his book should replace all the bibles and other heavily religious books out there! Imagine how many people will become awakened should they be ready to after reading this book!? The world may well be doing a 360 degrees turning point, and Mother Gaia will be a very happy mother for us earthlings who chose our life experience here this lifetime that is so dense and convincing. We shall all rise above it! Much Love and Blessings to all

Review- After 30 years into my own Universal Journey, it was a most wonderful ‘event’ to read George and Cynthia’s book. We have had similar experiences in the physical and cosmic matrix – processing through these very elaborate and influential ‘programs’ created to keep us subservient or off the track of connecting with the truth, freedom and power of our own hearts. I am also a huge fan of HeartMath that supports in science what George provides us on the spiritual end.

Review- George Kavassilas’ message in a book. This is something I would have never thought would happen. The book is well structured and contains all the bits that you might gather by watching his videos or hearing his interviews plus some more juicy stuff.
Everything is presented as clear as day therefore the book is a great tool for refreshing information and referencing key topics of the most important subject ever.

Blurb- This book is designed to give the reader a deep understanding and thorough working knowledge and of all types of cumulative preferred, fixed income, equities, and how to make them a profitable and important part of your portfolio. To best accomplish this I have also sprinkled in a series of articles, I wrote as a Seeking Alpha contributor, that demonstrates practical applications of that knowledge. Ultimately, what I consider a most valuable resource will be the periodically updated preferred watch-list that includes a column populated with the yearly fixed-income dividend figures of each preferred listed.

Review- Norm takes a lot of information on preferred stocks and puts them all into one location. The book is written well, explained in a way that even an average investor is able to understand and profit from his recommendations.

If you’re buying this book as a learning tool for preferred stock investing, you will not be disappointed.

Review- Have been working with Norman for the last years during my efforts to re-structure my portfolio using preferreds. His book has been helpful to us in creating a strategy for this exercise. Thanks to his good suggestions, we have been having some success. He has always been available to answer any of my sometimes “beginners” questions, which makes us a little more confident with our changes. Thanks Norm for the wonderful work and we look forward to “collaborating at a distance” in the future.

Review- This book is fantastic if you want to invest your in preferred stock and achieve yields of 6%-12% with minimal risk of market changes that affect common stocks. Norm tells you how to evaluate preferred stocks and pick the ones right for you. As a bonus he provides a tip each week not published elsewhere to those that purchase his book. Some tips are for the conservative investor and some for those of us that can tolerate minimal risk. So far there have been 8 tips and I have invested a total of about $50,000 in 4 of them and have been very pleased with my purchases. I would have bought 2 more, but I waited too long to get them at the price I wanted. Thank you Norm and I can’t wait to see your next tip. This book is a true unbiased source of information.

Blurb- Do you hate your job? Ever find your mind wandering to things you know it shouldn’t while at work and you’re forced to deal with one annoying customer after the other? If so and you’re looking for a laugh then this is the book for you!

Review- Ray storms back with his third novel whose title sets the tone for over 300 highly entertaining pages of sledgehammer wit and words most certainly not minced. Narrator Mike is a guy who is surely far too intelligent to be working in the ‘hospitality’ business – not, in this case are his customers the rich and famous but a ghastly and dissolute assortment of sad and tiresome slot junkies. The whole book is a rather circular, dizzying, nauseating motion round and round and round in circles – namely around the gaming floors from machine to machine to coffee maker to till to machine to coffee maker to till etc etc. It’s a sign of the quality of the writing that I became unpleasantly claustrophobic about three-quarters of the way through and just wanted these sad gits like Big M, Angry Joe and Voula to leave me alone too! Not even an excursion by bus to a different gaming hall the other side of Melbourne gives the reader any sense of air as the bus is filled with these very same creatures. These characters are gambling junkies but of the most tragically pitiful kind – they lose most nights on slot machines which involve no skill whatsoever yet come back for the next day and moan about it before losing again. The narrator has no time for these sad and beautifully drawn characters but the descriptions leave the reader with an overwhelming sense of pity and futility. In contrast to Ray’s last novel, the epic ‘Confessions of a Gaming Attendant’, ‘How to Lose Money and Irritate people is about half the length and set almost entirely on the gaming floor. This gives it a marvellous intensity and focus – the narrator’s personal life doesn’t much come into play and there is no meandering from the constant click, whirr and flash of those gaudy machines. Mike’s is the constant biting wit and citric cynicism of a man stuck with a small cross-section of human nature due to his job. I don’t much care for cops even though I appreciate the brave job they do, mainly because many (not all I hasten to add) of them have a sneering, suspicious, sarcastic attitude towards their fellow man that mixing with criminals all the time must engender. Basically Mike is stuck with largely people who are obsessed with money but are not very good at keeping it (the pokies) and people who are obsessed with money and VERY good at keeping it (the clubs) while hardly rolling in the stuff himself…. and how much more interesting and enriching it is than reading about the rich and famous.
My favourite character is probably Julius, a deluded Walter Mitty-esque fantasist with pretentions of aristocracy. He doesn’t play the machines at all yet comes to the club to chat about his impending marriage to a dead princess and drink gallons of tea. It does beg the question, why does he hang out there? Despite sounding or at least wanting to sound like a Tory and a Royal at the same time (never two things to get off on a good footing with me anyway) he is rather endearing (at least from a DISTANCE) and provides at least some smidgen of humanity among the clientele, Perhaps my favourite aspect of this hilarious and at times depressing romp is the daydreaming of the narrator. As the drudgery shimmers and fades into the background, zombies, terrorist attacks and extravagant insults fill the club until some shitty task throws Mike out of his reverie.

Anyway, buy this! You shan’t be disappointed. It’s hilarious, it’s pitiless, it’s relentless, it kind of hits many of the same funny bones Hunter S Thompson hit in its orgy of misanthropy. Fortunately Mike does have some light relief in the shape of two colleagues he gets on with, one of whom sets up the final scene of descent into farce. The main villain of the piece, a lazy and obnoxious stand-in boss, will get what’s coming…
